Newsletter Term 2 – week 11
TERM 3 UPDATE
Hello again everyone,
The year is speeding ahead and before we know it, it will be Term 3. Thank you to all the parents who have given feedback regarding the new format for student reports. We hope that this format will give you a clear and useful record of your child’s progress. It is very pleasing too, to see so many parents attending interviews with the teachers. We are always happy to talk with you about your child’s progress.
As some of you will already be aware there will be some changes to staffing next term. Sadly, the position which has been temporarily filled by Mr Thompson on 2T must now be filled by a permanent teacher. Mrs Robyn Horne has already visited the school and met with the children and Mr Thompson so that a smooth handover can take place. Mr Thompson will be greatly missed by both the children and staff and I would like to thank him on their behalf for the wonderful contribution he has made to WEPS over the past 18 months. I do hope that he will continue to work in our school on a casual basis.
Term 3 will be a particularly busy time at school with the Dance 2BeFit program kicking off in Week 2, Literacy and Numeracy Week also in Week 2, Wollongong Choral Festival, Southern Stars, The Premier’s Sporting and Spelling Challenges, Book Week and PSSA sport happening throughout the term.
I would like to thank the teachers and students for their hard work this term and especially parents for your ongoing support of the school and wish you an enjoyable and restful break. School returns for students on Tuesday 28th July. Happy holidays!
Sharyn Liddle
Principal

Athletics Carnival
Friday was windy and cold but a job well done. Our athletics carnival was completed successfully on the day and we only await the finalisation of the field events to declare the winning house and age champions. Ribbons for completed events will be awarded at the end of Thursday’s NAIDOC Week assembly. Thankyou to Mr Cummins for his organisation of the day and to Toni Joel and our canteen mums for their hard work at the BBQ.
Principal’s Morning Tea
The special morning tea for Term 2 Principal’s Award winners will be held this Wednesday at 10:30. Twenty six students have achieved their award this term. Congratulations! A special thankyou to Toni Joel and her canteen helpers for providing the refreshments.
Kindergarten Killalea Excursion
Please ensure that all notes and money are finalised by tomorrow morning at the very latest. No money or notes can be accepted on the day.
Attendance
Congratulations to all the boys and girls who will receive a 100% attendance certificate for this Term. These will be presented on the first week back after the holidays. These certificates carry the same value as 5 WEPSIs and can be used towards the achievement of a Principal’s Award. Please don’t forget to ring and let the school know if your child has been absent or send a short note on the day that they return to school. This saves a great deal of time for the office staff in printing, signing and distributing reminder notes about unexplained absences.

Last week was the final week for home reading this term. Please return any outstanding books to Mrs D’Arcangelo tomorrow. Home reading will start again next term. “Dragons Teeth”
The New South Wales Government will paint triangular markings, otherwise known as “dragon’s teeth”, at the start of school zones in New South Wales in order to make the zones more visible to motorists. The program involves painting triangular markings, or ‘dragon’s teeth’, on each side of the lanes for 35 metres from the start of each school zone. The new triangular line markings are used internationally and are a proven way of alerting motorists when they are driving through a 40kmh school zone. The Roads and Traffic Authority, which is managing the initiative, aims to have painted a set of ‘dragon’s teeth’ in every New South Wales school zone by the end of 2011. The marking of ‘dragon’s teeth’ reinforces the importance of always slowing down to 40kmh when travelling in a school zone.
Lost Property
The lost property box is once again overflowing. Some items do have names on them. Please ensure that you check the box carefully this week as all items without names will be cleaned out at the end of the week for recycling or disposal.
