Newsletter Term 3 – Week 1
Premier’s Sporting Challenge
Hello again everyone,
This week our school will begin participation in the Premier’s Sporting Challenge. The aim of the Challenge is to encourage children to increase their daily physical activity levels. The Challenge will support the work that we are already doing as part of the Live Life Well at School project ie Crunch and Sip, whole school fitness, sport etc.
Each day in class children will complete a log sheet of their physical activities both at school and at home. To receive a gold award in November classes will aim for children in Kinder-Year 2 to do at least 30 minutes activity each day, and in Years 3-6, 60 minutes of activity each day.
School activities such as PE, playground games, dance and PSSA training sessions can be counted as well as home and weekend activities such as participation in competition sport of any kind and informal activities such as walking the dog, playing backyard games such as cricket or Frisbee – basically any activity that gets children moving can be counted towards the minimum 30/60 minutes per day. Of course, there will be some children who are very involved in sport and will exceed this amount.
Teachers will show the children how to complete their cards and monitor students’ progress.
Parents can help at home by encouraging children to be involved and suggesting ways that children can add to their total points.
The Challenge finishes on the last day of term, 2nd October.

Please read the enclosed leaflet carefully and if your child is sick with flu-like symptoms please seek medical advice promptly. If your personal contact details have changed recently, please inform the school as a matter of urgency so that you can be contacted promptly if your child is sick. Any confirmed cases of swine flu must be reported to the principal.

COME ON A BOOK SAFARI WITH OUR NEW BOOK CHAT GROUP!
The theme for Book Week this year is Book Safari so why not join the safari, by means of an informal book chat group. Take an expedition into the magical world you can explore through books. To be involved, all you need to do is read and be willing to chat to others in the group about the book you are reading. Just think about all the new exciting books that await your discovery. I plan to have us meet every second Thursday at second half lunch on even weeks of the school term. There might even be some popcorn involved. Interested? Have any questions? See Ms. Thompson in the library to register, our safari starts in Week 2.

The Lorenzo’s lunch was won by Owen Bradbury in KC.
