NAIDOC WEEK

Hello again everyone,

Next week we will be celebrating NAIDOC Week. The theme for this year is Honouring Our Elders, Nurturing Our Youth. Ms Pechey has been busy organising a range of activities to mark this occasion.

On Monday we will start the week with a flag raising ceremony at 9am. Throughout the week we will be selling respect bands for $2 – the money raised will go to Koori Kids to help disadvantaged Indigenous children.

On Thursday our assembly will focus on NAIDOC Week and children can wear mufti with an Aboriginal theme.

Congratulations To Our AFL Paul Kelly Cup Team!

Last Tuesday our boys team competed in the Paul Kelly AFL Cup. The team played strongly on the day and represented our school with pride as this message from one of our parents notes:

“As a mum and a spectator I would like to compliment all players in the Woonona East PS AFL team who participated in the Paul Kelly Cup competition at Port Kembla last Tuesday.

It was fantastic to watch as I felt each player did their absolute best. All boys displayed good sportsmanship both on and off the field.

Congratulations boys, you played with true style.”

Well done to all the boys and thankyou to parents and Mr Cummins for his support on the day.

Lost Property

The lost property box is once again overflowing. Some items do have names on them. Please ensure that you check the box carefully this week as all items without names will be cleaned out next week for recycling or disposal.

Homework Help Online

Parents and carers can access age-appropriate material to help with your child’s homework assignments at the Teaching and Learning Exchange:

www.tale.edu.au/tale/live/index.jsp

Information ranges from ages 4-9 which includes pages to help you follow your child’s early learning and to help you talk with teachers about your child’s progress to Beyond School, which includes links to TAFE, university and other further learning opportunities such as apprenticeships and traineeships.

The content of each age group area is organised into these sections:

  • What they learn
  • Helping your child learn
  • About stages of learning

From the navigation bar you can also access links to educational organisations and news.

The site also includes a Jargon Buster, a selection of translated documents and links to DET parent newsletters such as the Click! technology guide and School Parent’s magazine.

Dance 2BFit in Term 3

In Term 3 we will be offering a nine-week dance program for all children K-6. Lessons will be conducted each Monday by experienced dance teachers and children will learn a range of fun dances and dance styles. Lessons are 45 minutes in length.  The program has been very well received in many local schools and really enjoyed by the children. The cost of the program is $2:50 per week or $22.50 for the nine-week program.

Voluntary school contributions can still be paid before the end of Term 2. The cost is $25 for one child or $50 for two or more children. These funds are used to support the library and other school programs. All names go into a draw to win lunch at Lorenzo’s Restaurant, Keira Street, which will take place in the last week of term.
