Student Attendance

Hello again everyone,

I hope that you enjoyed the long weekend and were able to take a break and spend some time relaxing with your families. It was nice to finally enjoy some sunshine after the recent wet weather.

As the cold and flu season approaches, absences from school are inevitable and I would like to touch upon a few points in relation to school attendance.

Students returning from absence should provide their teacher with an explanatory note on the day that they return to school. Parents can also phone to notify us of the reason for absence. Failure to do so within seven days will result in your child’s absence being recorded in the computer system as ‘unexplained’ and you will receive a letter requesting an explanation. Prompt return of the attached slip allows us to rectify attendance records.

Where children will be absent for a period longer than two weeks (eg an overseas holiday) you must apply for an exemption from school. This should be done as soon as you are aware that your child will be away. In cases of long term illness, a medical certificate must be supplied.

School attendance is very closely monitored by the Home School Liaison Officer (HSLO)  and in some cases parents have been prosecuted for failing to ensure that their children attend school regularly. Numerous unexplained absences, patterns of non-attendance (with or without explanation) or partial attendance (numerous late arrivals or early departures) may lead to a query by the HSLO who will phone you and offer assistance in improving your child’s attendance.

If you have any questions regarding the above information or concerns about your child’s attendance please do not hesitate to give me a call on 42841472.

The children are practising hard and sounding better each week as the choral festival approaches and the dates have now been set for our performance. Excursion Notes

Please note that excursion notes and money must be returned before the day of your child’s excursion. No notes or money will be accepted on the day. This is to ensure that buses are booked in advance for the correct number of students, cheques for venues can be drawn correctly prior to the day and appropriate safety precautions and OH and S procedures are in place for the number of students attending the excursion. No student will be allowed to attend an excursion without a permission note regardless of whether they have paid.

 Guinea Pigs

Would you like to know more about caring for your pet guinea pig? The NSW Cavy Club is holding a pet class at the Russell Vale Community Hall, corner of Channon Street and Keerong Avenue, Russell Vale, at 12pm on 21st June. Bring along your pet guinea pig. A colouring competition is also being run. Entry forms are available from the office. They need to be returned to the office by Tuesday 16th June. See the school notice board for more information.

Parent-Teacher Interviews (Repeat)

Semester one reports will be sent home on Monday 29th June, however many of you will already know if you wish to meet with your child’s teacher. Listed below are the dates on which teachers are available for interviews. The children will bring home a sheet on which you can nominate a suitable time and you will then be advised of the exact time of your interview. If you have any questions, please see your child’s teacher. 5M parents who nominate to attend on Monday 29th June will receive their reports at the interview.
