Education Week 2009
Hello again everyone,
Welcome to Education Week 2009. This year’s theme is ‘NSW Public Schools- Leading the Way’.
We will be celebrating Education Week with an Open Day this Wednesday beginning at 9:15 with a whole school assembly. We will have the usual news and awards and Kindergarten will be performing some poems for us.
Parents are invited to visit the children in their classrooms from 10:00-10:45, followed by morning tea. Sausage sizzles, tea and coffee and cakes will be available for purchase at recess.
The finals of the public speaking competition will be held at 11:15. Please see below for the list of finalists.
Make sure that you also take some time to visit Ms Wynn Jones in the technology room where the children’s movies and animations will be on display from 10:00.
I look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday.
Sharyn Liddle
Principal

Speaking With Your Child’s Teacher
From time to time all parents need to make contact with their child’s teacher. Teachers are very happy to speak with you but cannot do so during teaching time or at 9:00 when children are entering class and waiting to begin their day. A short note requesting a meeting is quick, easy and really appreciated. Teachers will then get back to you by note or phone to arrange a suitable time.
Let’s Get The Facts
Sadly, distress has been caused to some children and their families by gossip that was in fact untrue. If your child comes home with a story that doesn’t quite ring true, it is always the best policy to speak with your child’s teacher or the Principal to ascertain the facts of the matter. Gossip has no place in a happy and caring school like WEPS.
Public Speaking Competition
Congratulations to all our finalists in the 2009 Public Speaking Competition held last Wednesday’s Open Day. Mr Cullen, English Head Teacher at Woonona High School and Ms Wynn-Jones judged the speakers. Mr Cullen was particularly impressed with the high standard of all our speakers and it was a difficult job to choose the winners from this excellent line-up. Our Junior Public Speaking Trophy was awarded to Phoebe Hinde in 4P. The senior award went to Rory Armstrong-Gordon in 5/6H. Congratulations to everyone and a special thankyou to Mrs D’Arcangelo for her organisation of the event.
Happy, Healthy Harold
The Life Education Program begins this Wednesday. The cost is $6 which includes a visit to the van and workbook. Activities centre on healthy lifestyles and personal relationships. It is a fantastic program and always very popular with the children.
