Congratulations Brittany!
Last week, Brittany competed at the PSSA State Basketball Carnival in Bathurst as a member of the South Coast representative team. The team played magnificently to reach the final but were unfortunately defeated by 4 points in a close finish. Brittany was selected to play in the State team at the National Carnival in Newcastle in August. Congratulations Brittany on a fantastic achievement!
School Hall Update
Last Thursday the engineering team from Richard Crookes Constructions visited our school to begin planning for the construction of our new school hall. The hall will be sited on the school oval to the south of 1/2C and 1B classrooms and include a canteen and covered outdoor learning area. Richard Crookes are now in the process of choosing a company to build our hall. Construction could begin as early as July and take around 6 months to complete.

When you come to Education Day on Wednesday, make sure you bring your child to the Tech Room as part of your classroom visit. Here you can see the creative efforts of our students here at WEPS.

MS Readathon
Families who would like to be involved in the year’s Readathon can access information online at www.msreadathon.org.au or call 1300 677 323 for more details. Once 20 students from our school have registered online for the MS Readathon, the school will receive a book pack for the library! It’s free to register online, just check with mum or dad first and then start reading and collecting your sponsors!!
Scooters, Skateboards and ‘Ripstiks’
For obvious safety reasons, scooters, skateboards and ‘Ripstiks’ are not to be ridden to and from school. Children riding bicycles must wear a safety helmet at all times. A copy of the school’s Bicycle Policy is available from the office on request.
The Bounce Back! Resilience Program is designed to develop the key coping skills associated with self reliance, namely, self efficacy and a success orientation, a capacity to think optimistically and helpfully about situations, and being able to regulate one’s emotions.
The focus for weeks five and six this term will be SUPPORT looking at family support, supporting and caring for animals, supporting people we don’t know, compassion and kindness.
At home you could talk about how your family supports the family pets or donates to charity or supports friends in times of need. Also, tell your child about a time when you needed support and who supported and how. Older children could discuss with you people in the news that need support (eg. bushfire victims) and what support they need.
Stage 2 Local Walk
This week 3DB, 3/4L and 4P will be going on a local walk as part of our HSIE unit on ‘Working Together’. We will specifically be looking at local facilities provided by council. The walk will be in school time and the children do not need to bring anything with them.
