CORINDA ROAD PARKING

Hello again everyone,

Thankyou to all the parents who have heeded the parking restriction notices in Corinda Road during the morning drop off time. I noticed the traffic moving smoothly and safely on most mornings last week.

While many parents do try to abide by the afternoon restrictions, there are still some who continue to park for an extended period in the No Parking zone, causing a build up of cars which are attempting to turn into Corinda Road to pick up children.

Waiting in a No Parking zone is illegal and could result in a significant on-the-spot fine and loss of merit points, whether or not the driver is in the car.  More seriously, it places students and other parents at risk of being seriously hurt.

Wollongong Council parking officers regularly patrol areas around schools to ensure that the necessary parking restrictions are upheld.

Let’s make home time safe for our school community by doing the right thing and obeying the parking signs.

Voluntary Contributions

Thankyou to all the parents who have already made voluntary contributions to the school. The cost this year is $25:00 for one child and $50:00 for two or more children. These funds help to support our library, sports and other programs in the school. All contributors will go into a draw to win a meal for two at Lorenzo’s Diner in Wollongong. The draw will take place at the end of the term.

Assemblies

Whole school assemblies will be held fortnightly on Thursdays at 9:15, beginning in Week 3 with an item by 1B and 1/2C. In Week 5, however, the assembly may be changed to Wednesday to fit in with Education Week celebrations.  Confirmation of this will be in next week’s newsletter.

Tuesday Band Practice

There will be two separate band lessons this Tuesday. Experienced players will meet at 1:00 for a lunchtime session.  They will be released from class early to eat their lunch.  New band members will have their session from 2:00-3:00 as usual.

Your child will receive a Stewart House Clothing Appeal bag today. This is a great chance to clean out unwanted clothes and help Stewart House raise much needed funds to support their very worthwhile programs. Pickup day for bags is Tuesday 12th May. A donation slip is also attached to this newsletter. A donation of one gold coin could win you a $4 000 family holiday to a destination of your choice. Due back Friday.

Environment News

Bush regeneration/weeding

Every Tuesday morning (between 9am-9.30am) a group of us meet to maintain our beautiful native gardens.  It doesn’t matter if you don’t have any experience, come along and contribute to our school environment.  This week we will be working on the ‘tyre garden bed’ which is near the library.

If you would like to join in but Tuesdays are inconvenient, please call Jennifer 0419 697 636.  We are thinking of starting another group on Mondays (or another day if there is a demand for it).

We would love to see you.  Meet at the sandpit, bring a hat, some gloves and a water bottle.

Environment Tip

Now that we are back into school morning routine, here are some recycling tips for school lunch boxes.

Reusable lunchboxes & drink bottles Plastic and insulated lunchboxes are easy to find and their use reduces waste. Even better are compartmentalised lunchboxes. These little beauties come with their own compartments so kids still get the thrill of lots of little items but without the packaging – and you don’t have to scrounge around for multiple plastic containers with matching lids.

Cling-wrap free zone! If you send food to school in paper bags or ziplock plastic bags – ask for them to be brought home so they can be recycled or reused. The same applies to juice containers – make sure the container is recyclable when you buy them.

Lost Lunch Boxes and Drink Bottles

If your child has lost their lunchbox or drink bottle please remind them to check the lost property box outside the uniform shop.  Due to health reasons, any uncollected bottles and boxes will be disposed of this Friday.   Clear labelling with your child’s name and class helps us to return lost property quickly to its owner.

Loud Shirt Day Fundraiser

On Friday 15th May (week 3) a Loud Shirt Mufti Day will be held at W.E.P.S.

We are raising money for The Shepherd Centre.  This organization assists children who are deaf or hearing impaired, to develop spoken language.

Some ideas for suitable clothing for this occasion may be: colourful shirts, bright shoes (covered), headbands/jewellery, bright hats, gloves, scarves, beanies, tattoos.  Please bring in a gold coin donation on this day so we can assist The Shepherd Centre to continue to provide exceptional services to children with hearing impairments into the future.

Tegan and Rhiannon (S.R.C. Members).
