Welcome Back!
Hello again everyone.
I hope that your holidays have been restful and that students have returned ready for another busy term of learning here at WEPS.
I would especially like to welcome back Mr Cummins and thank him for his dedication in managing the school so ably during 2008/9.
He is looking forward to getting to know all the students in 5/6C and I am sure that he will be very happy with the progress they have made under Ms Clarkson’s care during Term 1.
This Term will be event-filled with NAPLAN testing coming up soon for Years 3 and 5, Education Week, school photos, Life Education van, Semester 1 reports and parent /teacher interviews and PSSA sport to name a few.
I look forward to another successful term here at Woonona East Public School as teachers, parents and students work together to ‘Strive, Serve, Succeed”!

Influenza
As the colder weather approaches we all need to take precautions against the spread of colds and flu. There are many things you can do to prevent getting and spreading influenza:
Cover your mouth when you cough, and wash your hands regularly.
· Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the garbage bin after you use it.
· Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze.
· Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
· Influenza is spread from person-to-person through coughing or sneezing. Stay away from people who are sick.
· If you get sick, stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to avoid infecting them.
Big School Expo 30th June Woonona-Bulli RSL
Find out more about how to give your child the best possible start to school in 2010 by visiting the Big School Expo at Woonona-Bulli RSL on Tuesday 30th June at 6:30pm. WEPS will have a stall on the night and there will be helpful hints from educators and health professionals.
This term we introduce the Bounce Back! Resilience Program into our school. This program is designed to develop the key coping skills associated with self reliance, namely, self efficacy and a success orientation, a capacity to think optimistically and helpfully about situations, and being able to regulate one’s emotions.
Each fortnight the whole school will focus on one of the core values and this will be mentioned in the newsletter so you can follow-up at home with
discussions about your family values and how they relate.
For weeks one and two the focus will be HONESTY – specifically looking at cheating, honesty and dishonesty and being tactful. Ms Pechey
Crunch and Sip
The Crunch and Sip program will continue this term. Children should bring along a small serving of fruit or veges to eat during this time. Don’t forget that water bottles can also be brought to drink during class time.
