PREMIER’S SPORTING CHALLENGE
Hello again everyone.
As part of our ‘health promoting school’ ethos, Woonona East will be participating in the Premier’s Sporting Challenge during Terms 2 and 3. Early next term each student will receive a small booklet in which to record their sport and fitness activities each week. This will include fitness and sport time at school and any other moderate to vigorous physical activities that they are involved in including organised activities such as soccer, netball or rugby or recreational activities such as walking the dog, bike riding, swimming or dancing.
The Sporting Challenge encourages students to aspire towards the national standard of one hour of physical activity per day.
At the end of the 15-week Challenge, each class will combine their Challenge points leading to the award of a bronze, silver or gold certificate.
Entry in the Challenge also makes our school eligible to apply for a grant to further promote sport and fitness within the school. This year we were able to purchase gym mats, mini fitness trampolines and a class-size soccer kit with an initial grant from the Sporting Challenge. Look out for more information about the Challenge in the newsletter next term!
It has been a busy and rewarding start to 2009 here at WEPS. I am so pleased to be part of such a great team; terrific teachers, kids and parents working together to ‘strive, serve succeed’ – our school motto.
Thank you for your support this term. Have a happy and restful break and I look forward to seeing you all when students return to school on Wednesday 29th April.

Congratulations to Miss Armstrong who will be getting married during the coming school break. It will be a wonderful and exciting day and we wish Miss Armstrong and her new husband all the best.
