BOUNCE BACK!

Hello again everyone.

Next term the boys and girls will be involved in a new personal development program called ‘Bounce Back’. This program uses children’s literature to teach students about being positive and resilient and gives them skills to ‘bounce back’ after disappointment or a negative experience.  The program covers many areas of the PDHPE syllabus including anti bullying, self esteem and friendship skills. There is a particular Bounce Back acronym for each Stage. The acronym for Stage 3 students is:

Bad times don’t last. Things always get better. Stay optimistic.

Other people can help if you talk to them. Get a reality check.

Unhelpful thinking makes you feel more upset.

Nobody is perfect – not you and not others.

Concentrate on the positives (no matter how small) and use laughter.

Everybody experiences sadness, hurt, failure, rejection and setbacks from time to time. They are a normal part of life. Try not to personalise them.

Blame fairly – how much of what happened was because of you, how much was because of others and how much was because of bad luck or circumstances?

Accept the things you can’t change, but try to change what you can first.

Catastrophising exaggerates your worries. Don’t believe the worst possible picture.

Keep things in perspective. It’s only one part of your life.

There is a great deal of wisdom here that we could all put into place from time to time. I know the children will enjoy the program next term.

Have a great week!

Whooping Cough.

There has been a confirmed case of whooping cough in the school. Please be on the lookout for symptoms such as a runny nose, tickly cough and mild fever. Whooping cough is highly contagious in its early stages and particularly dangerous for children under 6 months of age. If you suspect that your child is infected please see your doctor immediately so that a diagnosis and treatment, if required, can be started. Children with a confirmed infection cannot return to school until their entire course of antibiotics is completed (usually 5 days).

Please see the attached information from NSW Health.

Thankyou Parents and Students!

A huge thank you to all the parents and students who gave up their time on Saturday to attend the school’s working bee. We made some fantastic progress in clearing weeds and grass from play  areas, mowing, replanting, and re-mulching the main garden beds around the COLA area. There is always something to be done so if you are able to help at any time with gardening, mulching or mowing and snipping please let me know. Don’t forget that the parents’ environment group meets each Tuesday morning at 9:00 for general weeding and garden maintenance.

WEPS Cross Country This Friday 9-11

Parents are invited to attend to cheer on the boys and girls. Water bottles and hats are essential.

Eggshibition and Easter Hat Parade 7th April at 2:15

Children are encouraged to decorate eggs for entry in one of the following categories:

Hats are to be made at home and all children in Years K-6 are encouraged to join in. Parents are invited to come along and watch the parade.

Dental diseases including tooth decay and gum disease are a growing problem in our children.  Foods that can cause the most harm to teeth include:  Fruit drinks, sweet sticky lollies, chocolate, soft drinks, sports and energy drinks.  These foods should be limited in children and only be provided to children occasionally.  Foods that can prevent dental disease include:  Cheese, boiled eggs, fresh fruit and vegetable sticks and sandwiches.

Don’t forget canteen Open Mondays, but NO lunch orders.

Thank you to all our Year 6 volunteers for their top effort this term.
