MORE GOOD NEWS ABOUT OUR BUILDING PLANS!

Late last week I was very pleased to receive a phone call from Sydney advising me that our school would be one of the first in NSW to receive a school hall under the Federal Government’s ‘Building the Education Revolution’ package.

The hall will be the standard size for schools with our number of students ie 140 square metres and include a stage, sports store and a variety of other storage rooms, toilets and a movable rear door that can open fully to a covered outdoor area. It is proposed that the hall will be sited on the oval behind the current library and Stage 1 classrooms.

It will be fantastic to be able to hold our assemblies out of the weather and to have an extra space for choir, band and dance practice and for such activities as gymnastics and visiting performers.

I am expecting to hear more in the near future and will keep you informed through the newsletter.

            Have a great week!

School Working Bee Saturday 28th March.

Why: to tidy and beautify our school grounds.

When: Saturday 28th March 12:00-3:00 followed by a thankyou sausage sizzle.

Please bring: the school has a mower and whipper snipper but you may be willing to bring yours along so that we can divide into areas and get the job done even quicker! Spades, garden forks, shears, secateurs and similar tools would also be handy for weeding and trimming.

Please register at the office before Saturday so that we know how many helpers we will have. Even if you can only spare an hour, we’d love to see you there. Thankyou in anticipation of your support.

Better Buddies Barbecue Tomorrow

Tomorrow, Tuesday at 12:30 we will be holding a barbecue for our 5/6H students and their Kindergarten buddies. This year the children have come together each week to develop their relationships through participation in fun activities. This has made the transition to school easier for our youngest students, particularly in the playground where they have had ‘big’ children to help and care for them. The seniors have been great role models for Kindergarten and we are all looking forward to our lunch tomorrow. A special thank you to Ms Bui for her donation of bread for our barbecue.

Use the Safety Door

It is essential that children use the door closest to the kerb when getting into or out of cars ie the ‘safety door’. Please ensure that your children do this especially in the mornings and afternoons when roads around our school are so busy.

WEPS Cross Country

Our annual cross country race will be held on Friday 3rd April between 9:20 and 11:00. All students will be involved. Kinders will complete one lap of the oval while all other students will complete a longer course throughout our school grounds. Parents are invited to attend to cheer on the boys and girls. Water bottles and hats will be essentials on this day.

Eggshibition and Easter Hat Parade

As part of our Easter Celebrations we will be having ‘Eggshibition’ on Tuesday 7th April.

Children are encouraged to decorate eggs for entry in one of the following categories:

·         Best decorated

·         TV or movie character

·         Book or nursery rhyme character

·         My hero

Eggs need to be taken to classrooms in the morning and will be displayed under the COLA from recess. Parents are welcome to view the display during the day.

We will also be holding an Easter Hat Parade at 1:45 that day. Hats are to be made at home and all children in Years K-6 are encouraged to join in. Parents are invited to come along and watch the parade.

Children can enter either or both of these activities.

School ANZAC Ceremony

Our school’s ANZAC ceremony will be held on Wednesday 8th April at 10:30. The ceremony will be conducted by our senior students. Members of Woonona Bulli Sub-Branch will be attending. Parents and visitors are welcome to take part in the ceremony.

Flowers will be needed for our wreaths and can be sent to the staffroom on the day.

Bike Helmets

The wearing of bike helmets is compulsory for all bike riders. Students who do not wear a helmet will not be allowed to bring their bikes to school. Scooters, skateboards and skates are to be left at home.
