Have Your Say About The School Building Redevelopment and Concept Plan

At last Tuesday night’s P and C meeting we were presented with the concept plans for the redevelopment of our school by officers from the Department of Education and Training.

The P and C have been hard at work for some time now, lobbying the State government for support to improve the facilities at our school. As a result two concept proposals have been developed by the architect, incorporating a combination of refurbished and new buildings which will, if they come to fruition, revitalise our entire school.

While this is only step one in a long-term process it is still a very exciting one, especially now that there is also a good possibility of accessing some of the billions of dollars that Mr Rudd has slated to improve public school facilities across Australia.

Because we would like all members of our school community to contribute their ideas, I will place laminated copies of the plans on the noticeboard on the COLA stage and on the picnic tables outside Kindergarten throughout this week. Please take the time to have a look and pass your ideas on at the office. The boys and girls will also get to have a say at the next SRC meeting.

The P and C will be passing our suggestions on to the architect in the following week.

Have a great week!

Outcome of the P & C AGM and General Meeting held on 10 March 2009

During the AGM all positions were vacated.  A big thank you to all the hard working officers leaving and a big welcome to all the officers elected for 2009.

The exciting news from the General Meeting was the presentation by the Department of Asset Management of 2 possible options to upgrade and improve our schools buildings and grounds.

These 2 plans will be posted in the school grounds for your comment.  Please pass all feedback in writing to the office by Friday 20 March.  All comments will be collated back to the Asset managers and a final plan developed.

If you would like a copy of the minutes emailed to you, leave your email address in the P & C folder in the office.

School Working Bee Saturday 28th March.

Why: to tidy and beautify our school grounds.

When: Saturday 28th March 12:00-3:00 followed by a thankyou sausage sizzle.

Please bring: the school has a mower and whipper snipper but you may be willing to bring yours along so that we can divide into areas and get the job done even quicker! Spades, garden forks, shears, secateurs and similar tools would also be handy for weeding and trimming.

Please register at the office before Saturday so that we know how many helpers we will have. Even if you can only spare an hour, we’d love to see you there. Thankyou in anticipation of your support.

Don’t Forget Your Water Bottles!

Adequate fluid intake is essential to good health. Not drinking enough fluid causes dehydration. Any level of dehydration can cause physical symptoms such as poor concentration in class, headaches and irritability. Children rarely drink enough water during break times at school and often forget to drink unless reminded. Crunch and Sip provides an opportunity to drink water and prevent dehydration.

How much water do children need?

The recommended daily amounts of water for children and adolescents are:

5 glasses (1 litre) for 5-8 year olds

7 glasses (1.5 litres) for 9-13 year olds

9-10 glasses (2litres) for 14+ years

*a glass is 250ml

More water is needed if children are exercising or sweating due to heat.
