Newsletter Week 9 Term 4 2008

Posted on December 8th, 2008 in Newsletter by weps

•    Student progress reports go home today. Well done to all the boys and girls who have put in their best effort throughout the year. Thank you to the teachers who have put so much time into compiling these reports. Most individual reports take well over an hour to write, not to mention the preparation work that goes into these.
•    There is so much happening over the next two weeks that it is difficult to know where to start. Today we have our end of the year student disco and BBQ and the calendar on this page will show you what is to come. Tonight’s event is for students who have done the right thing this term.  We ask that parents reinforce with their children that once they are at the disco they do not leave the school grounds until someone comes to pick them up.
•    Congratulations to James, Rory, Ryan, Stephen, Teya, Tegan, Rhiannon and Brittany who will form the 2009 student executive. Badges will be presented on Thursday. Their first offical duty will be helping the out going executive at tonight’s disco. Well done to all candidates who nominated and gave a speech. All candidates were impressive.
•    Good luck to our boys cricket team who will be competing at the Milo Cup state finals tomorrow.
•    Our Presentation Day is this Thursday. A schedule of events is listed inside this newsletter. If your child is receiving an award we will endeavour to ring you on Wednesday to let you know in advance. If you have the chance you may be able to come up and see the award presented.

Donations to Woonona East Public School from P&C Association during 2008
As at the end of October, we had raised approx $2,400. The main event, the fun night was held in November this year compared to March last year, which explains the lower funds raised.
The funds raised, as well as some remaining funds from 2007 have been used for the following donations to the school:
•    Year 6 mugs in 2007
•    BBQ
•    Maths resources, including trundle wheels and games
•    Utility trolley
•    Canteen garden/chook pen
•    Contribution to Southern Stars
We have also as in prior years supported the following initiatives by contributing:
•    50% of the book vouchers used as rewards at end-of-year assembly in 2007
•    505 of the cost for’ Young Leaders’ conference
•    $50 to eight students competing at regional level to go towards cost of transport etc

We have made the decision to support the Year 6 farewell gifts and end-of-year book vouchers for 2008 and the hats and water bottles for the 2009 Kindergarten students.

Year 6 Farewell
This is a reminder for the Year 6 farewell tickets to be purchased as soon as possible.
Thank you.

Newsletter Week 8 Term 4 2008

•    Recently a number of students have asked for balls to be gotten down from school roofs. Unfortunately, due to OHS regulations, staff in government schools are not allowed to climb above 2 metres without taking special safety precautions involving a harness. As part of the school’s cyclical maintenance program our roofs and gutters are cleaned and balls and objects taken down. Any objects with student names on them are returned. Hopefully this maintenance will occur before the end of the year.
•    Boardies Day was a great success. The school raised $231. This money will go straight to our local surf lifesaving club, Woonona, for collection.
•    In this week’s newsletter I have included the school’s bicycle policy. Please note that skateboards, scooters and rollerblades are not permitted at Woonona East Public School under any circumstances, unless directed by teachers.
