Newsletter Week 7 Term 4 2008
• Thank you to all the families that contributed to the “Toys ‘n’ Tucker appeal. The donations will ensure that some children will have a happier Christmas than otherwise would have been the case.
• Thanks to all families that returned maths and student welfare surveys. There were around 70 responses to each survey. The information from these will help guide planning for next year.
• If your children are not going to be attending this school next year, please let the office know as soon as possible. We are forming our 2009 classes and the more accurate the information, the more accurate we can be in getting our class groupings together.
• This Friday is Boardies Day. Students are encouraged to wear their “boardies” (beach gear) and make a gold coin donation to support our surf life saving clubs. Living so close to the beach, this is a cause very worthy of all our support. Remember to wear enclosed footwear.
• Our school presentation day will be Thursday 11th December. At the moment we are looking at holding this event away from the school. A location and time will be in next week’s newsletter.
• Congratulations to Sean, Jacob, Matilda and Stephen who received their Principal’s Award at last week’s assembly. Congratulations to Eamon, Liam, and Patrick who will receive their Principal’s Award at next week’s assembly.

Students who wish to stand for election for the 2009 Student Executive, need to see Mr Cummins by Wednesday 26th November. Speeches will be heard by Mr Cummins next Monday 1st December and presented to students at an assembly on Wednesday 3rd December at 9:15am. Parents are invited to come along. Speeches should be around 60 seconds and no more than 90 seconds. Voting by students in grades 2 to 5 will follow speeches.
Maths Games
This term school and P&C funds have been made available to purchase maths equipment which will be used to make up game packs for classrooms. I will be making up the maths games packs on Wednesday 26th November. If anyone is able to help me in putting these together that would mean a lot more could be achieved on this day. If you can help please see me, or send in a note, or ring the office.
Thank you Sharon Pechey.
Absences and Late Arrivals
It is quite concerning the number of late arrivals we have every morning. Unfortunately consistent absences and partial absences results in letters being issued by the Department action. As several parents will be receiving such letters this week, we urge you to be aware attendance matters and ensure your child is punctual or any absence is justified. It is worrying that over four days last week there were 63 children late.
Thank you.

Chooks
We now have three families who have indicated they will be able to help by looking after the chooks during the holidays. We can now go ahead and find four suitable chooks for our chook pen. With only 4 weeks to go until the end of this year, we will introduce the chooks to the school at the beginning of 2009.
Classes for 2009
At present we are planning for 2009. If you have a concern about the class your child will go into next year, please put this in writing and forward it to the school. We will consider all such issues in forming classes. Alternatively, you can speak to the principal about concerns you may have. In general we will endeavour not to place your child with the teacher they had this year.
Library News
The end of the year is fast approaching. For our library this means a time to get all the books returned and back on the shelf for stocktake. The last weeks for students to borrow will be week 7 years 1 to 6 and week 8 for Kindergarten. Parents and students and teachers can assist by returning all library resources ASAP, by the end of week8 would be great. Happy Reading!!
