Newsletter Week 10 Term 3 2008

Posted on September 22nd, 2008 in Newsletter by weps

• Congratulations to Erin, Zachary  and James who will be receiving their Principal’s Award at this week’s K-6 assembly. A reminder that this week’s assembly is on Friday at 9:10pm, not the usual Thursday timeslot. This is to accommodate our 2009 Kindergarten Orientation program that runs on Thursday mornings.
• Interviews are being held today to choose the Woonona East principal. Although I’m disappointed I didn’t proceed to interview, I’m sure a suitable candidate will be chosen and hopefully the school community will be informed early next term.
• Parents are asked to be mindful of leaving young children in cars when they pick up their children from the school. As the weather heats up children can get distressed very quickly in a locked up car. If the car is unlocked, the child may wander off or be approached by strangers.

Week 1 Term 4Library News
A big thank you to all the children who submitted a book mark into our competition. The Year 6 library team had a hard time choosing the winners. After a lot of discussion the winning entries were:
K to Year 2 – Scout, Hugh and Nathan.
Years 3 & 4 – Brianna Pet, Samantha and Caitlin.
Years 5 & 6 – Steven, Samantha and Stephen
Also included in this newsletter is an invitation to D.C. Green’s book launch. D.C. visited our school last year during book week.
Happy Reading
Donna Thompson – Teacher Librarian.

Special Swimming Scheme
In weeks 4 and 5 next term, WEPS will be involved in the Intensive Swimming Program. This will be held at Corrimal heated pool, with daily 45 minute lessons conducted by qualified swimming instructors. In the past this program has been an enjoyable and highly successful experience for all the children involved. It is strongly recommended that all Year 2 students take advantage of this opportunity if possible. The Intensive Swimming Program is offered to all children in Year 2. If places are available they may then be offered to children in Years 3 and 4. Notes and further information will be sent home shortly. Mrs Lindley.

Bush Regeneration Group
The bush regeneration group meets on Tuesdays at 9am for half an hour. Come along and help maintain our beautiful school grounds. This week we will be working on the frog pond gardens. Meet at the sandpit.

Principal’s Awards
The Term 3 Principal’s Morning Tea will be held on Wednesday morning for all students who received their awards this term. Thank you to the canteen for organising this special treat. As well, for the senior award winners, there is time set aside in the technology room on Thursday afternoon.
