Posted on August 26th, 2008 in Newsletter by weps

•    Congratulations to Megan and Harrison who will be receiving their Principal’s Award at this week’s K-6 assembly. All students who have recently achieved a Principal’s Award will be presented with these at this week’s assembly.
•    Thank you to all the families who returned the survey relating to the school planning process for the next three years. Teachers will be considering these at next week’s staff meeting. If you would still like to submit some thoughts, the 3 questions posed were: What things do you like about our school? What things don’t you like, or think we need to change, about our school? Do you have any other suggestions on how we could improve what we do at the school? You can jot down your thoughts and send them to the office by this Friday and they’ll be considered at next week’s meeting.
•    Good luck to our Southern Stars stars! This is the big week. Early starts, late finishes. The big performance! Well done and good luck to the students and  their teachers, Mrs Lindley and Ms Armstrong. All your hard work is bound to lead to a hit.
•    Congratulations to Sanna who will receive the Minister’s Award for Excellence in Student Achievement  – Community Languages for the study of Swedish. Sanna will be presented with her award at a special ceremony at the University of NSW.

Newsletter Week 5 Term 3 2008

Posted on August 18th, 2008 in Newsletter by weps

•    OOPS! After announcing that I would be handing out our Principal’s Awards at our fortnightly K-6 assemblies, I forgot to. I apologise to the two girls who were to receive their awards. They will be the first ones up at our assembly on the 28th August. In future the SRC will automatically put it on the assembly agenda so there’s no risk of that happening again.
•    Please take care when dropping off and picking up students from school. In this newsletter the parking rules for the front of the school have been republished. I am aware of issues with the after school care bus and have asked the RTA to look at possible solutions.
•    There are always too many people to thank for the volunteer work undertaken around our school. I’d like to highlight two acts of generosity from last week. A big thank you to Mr Doug Hamill, who kindly donated 60 green and red athletics singlets emblazoned with the school crest. Students will get many years of use out of them and they’ll stand out as part of the school team. Thanks go also to Brian Fuller. Brian is an Aboriginal educator who donated one of his paintings to the school. He will also be working with a number of the classes in future weeks.
•    Congratulations to the following students who have received or will be receiving their Principal’s Award. Jordyn (Term 2), Gemma, Asha, Jarryd, Rhiannon, Sarah and Holly.

The Southern Stars show for 2008 is titled “This Life” and is based around the journey and experiences involved in finding the pieces of the puzzle that is life. Our section is called “The Bad Medley”, proving there is good in everyone. WEPS students will be dressed as punky “bad girls” and “bad boys”. A huge thank you to Ali , Pat  and Rosie-Ann, who are busily sewing our costumes. Tickets for all shows are on sale now from Ticketek. It would be great to have some WEPS supporters in the audience! Newsletter Week 4 Term 3 2008

• Congratulations to our choristers last Wednesday night at the Wollongong Primary Schools Choral Festival. What a wonderful performance. They looked and sounded fantastic up on stage at Anita’s Theatre. Thankyou to Mrs D’Arcangelo who prepared the choir to such a very high standard and conducted them with aplomb on the night. Thanks also to Mrs Hall who worked at the Choral Festival over the six nights. I know her efforts were very much appreciated.
• We have a winning WEPSI! Our new encouragement award was decided upon by the SRC. It was such a tough task that they decided to combine the efforts of four students, The winning WEPSI was designed by Georgia, Karisha, Sean and Claire.
• Well done to all our athletes who competed at the recent District Carnival. The official results haven’t come through yet, so I’ll leave individual names until next week, but I was assured by Ms Clarkson that there were many fine efforts and that we have quite a team going on to the Regional Carnival.

Congratulations to our School Choir. The performance on Wednesday night at Anita’s Theatre was perfect. It reflected 6 months of hard work. The children looked wonderful in their school uniforms and as usual, attracted many compliments for their behaviour and performance.
We will sing again at Thursdays assembly, so hired uniforms can be returned after that day.
Thank you Mrs D’Arcangelo.

Winning WEPSI
The competition to design the new WEPSI was a huge success with lots of entries from classes K-6. In fact the standard was so high that it was decided to use three character designs and one of the font designs so altogether we have four winners. The new WEPSI awards replace the encouragement awards, but the old encouragement awards will still be counted towards a Principal’s Award. The new WEPSI designs are included in this week’s newsletter.
Congratulations to Georgia for her font design and to Karisha, Sean and Claire Hilliard for their character designs.

A reminder that Principal’s Awards will be handed out at the fortnightly school assemblies.

World Vision Fundraiser
At assembly this Thursday there will be a visiting speaker from World Vision. She will tell us why it is important to raise money for World Vision. This coming weekend is World Vision 40 hour famine. In support of this, our school will be doing an opposite hand day where anyone who is left handed uses their right hand for the day and right handers use their left hands.
