Newsletter Week 10 Term 2 2008
• Mr Smith officially retires today. The Department will now look to fill the principal’s position, although no time frame or process is as yet in place. There are a number of ways the position can be filled such as priority transfer or merit selection.
• Our athletics events were completed last week. The District Carnival will be in Week 2, Term 3. Thank you to Ms Clarkson for organising our school athletics.
• The 2007 Annual School Report is being sent home with this newsletter. A big thank you to Mr Doug Hamill who organised the printing of the report and donated part of his fee to the school.
• Congratulations to Brianna and Haydn for receiving their principal’s award.
• Thank you to Kate for her donation of a rotating compost bin. Our school environmental programs are benefiting enormously from the support given by our community.

Environment News
Many thanks to Kate for donating a rotating compost bin. Hopefully with the money raised from the mufti day, we will have two bins to rotate food scraps and weeds. They will be situated near the canteen for the canteen volunteers to easily access them.
Bush regeneration/weeding group meets Tuesday mornings 9am -9.30am. We’d love to see you.
P&C NITBUSTERS
Thanks to all the families who participated in the NIT BUSTERS weekend. Lets hope we’ve busted them for the school holidays!
Kindergarten 2009
If you know of any parents who are looking to enrol their children at Woonona East for 2009, could you please ask them to contact our office. We would like to be able to plan ahead for next year and the more information we have the better job we can do.
Voluntary School Fees
Parents are invited to contribute the voluntary school fees for 2008.
One child $25.00; two or more children $50.00.
All funds donated will be allocated directly to the school library for the purchase of children’s books. It would be appreciated if these fees could be paid by the end of this term to help our library budget.
Correct Payee names on Cheques
Parents please be aware that any payments to the P&C (such as for the Krispy Kreme drive), it is important to have the correct payee on the cheques. The banks, at least the Commonwealth, have lately been strict about correct information on cheques. Unless the correct payee is shown on the cheques, they will not deposit them into the account.
Could you please therefore assist us by making out any cheques to the P&C as “Woonona East P&C Assoc” or “WEPS P&C”. For items bought in the uniform shop, the cheques should be made out to “Woonona East uniform Shop”, or WEPS uniform shop”. Thank you.

Mufti Day
Don’t forget that the mufti day will be on Thursday 3rd July. The colours will be red, yellow and black – the colours in the Aboriginal flag. We chose these colours to celebrate NAIDOC Week. NAIDOC celebrations are held around Australia in July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Do you know the meaning of the three colours in the flag?
Black – represents the Aboriginal people in Australia
Red – represents the red earth, the red ochre used in ceremonies and Aboriginal people’s spiritual relation to the land.
Yellow disk – represents the sun, the giver of life and protector.
Uniform Shop
The uniform shop will now also be open on Friday mornings from 8.30am to 9.00am. The uniform shop will be cleaning out all lost property.
Kids Café
This week’s lunch special, toasted chicken wrap with cheese, tomato and lettuce with an apple for $2.50. This Friday is “Pizza Day”, in all orders must be handed in by Wednesday to help with catering. Late orders will not be accepted. Please attach orders to a brown paper bag. Thank you. Term 3 we are looking for a volunteer that can come in for ½ hour Monday mornings to make up some jelly’s and mousse. If you can help please call Toni. Have a happy and safe holiday from the Canteen Committee.
