News Week 4 Term 1 2008

Posted on February 19th, 2008 in Newsletter by weps

• The playing fields had topsoil spread last week. This week turf will be placed on the fields. Hopefully we will be able to use the fields within 5 weeks. Perhaps our cross-country in week 10 will be a chance to celebrate a lush, green playground.
• The P & C meeting last week was well attended and was a forum for informative discussion. These meetings are always pleasant gatherings and a great chance to find out more about your school as well as the opportunity to contribute. The next meeting will be the AGM and will be held on Tuesday 11th March. If you are able to attend, it would be great to see you there.
• The presentation from Nutrition Australia will go ahead tomorrow in the library at 9.30am. The presenter was delayed last week due to family reasons and is very keen to meet with parents to discuss nutrition.
• Congratulations to Harrison and Matthew on receiving their Principal’s Award last week.

School Swimming Carnival
Students received their ribbons at last Thursday’s assembly. The winning house was Banks with 62 points, followed by Macquarie 59, Cook 43 and Endeavour 36. Congratulations to our swimming champions, listed below.

It’s very pleasing to be able to note acts of sporting behaviour and it doesn’t always happen on the field or in the pool. At the assembly I announced Kye as our 11 year champion. I had miscalculated and left an event out of the tallying of points. Kane was our 11 year champion and it was Kye who came up to me as soon as the assembly finished to tell me of my mistake. He could have kept quiet, but that’s not what champions do. Well done Kye, your honesty is appreciated.

Champions
Junior Girls: Shaylah
Junior Boys: Jordyn
11 Years Girls: Kiarra
11 Years Boys: Kane
12 Years Girls: Georgia, Caitlin (equal)
12 Years Boys: Kyle
A note will be sent home today for all students going to the North Wollongong District swimming carnival on Tuesday 26th February.

Road Safety
Children in K to 2 should not cross roads unassisted, they should be holding an adult’s hand. Around schools at the beginning and end of the day can be especially dangerous as parents are dropping off and picking up their children and may have difficulty noticing small children dashing out onto the road. In the newsletter there are two colouring in competitions from the RTA. One of these emphasises slowing down around schools, the other the importance of holding hands crossing the road.

Parking in Corinda Road
1. On the southern side of Corinda Road it is NO PARKING between 8am and 9.30am and between 2.30pm and 4pm. This means it is a drop off and pick up area only, with vehicles permitted to stop for a maximum of 2 minutes.
2. The turning circle is permanently NO STOPPING.
3. NO STOPPING sections are clearly marked at the intersection of Corinda Road and Royal Crescent. We hope this will make the situation safer for our students. Parking rangers will be visiting regularly to check the situation and issue fines. Parents are asked not to drive into the staff car park for safety reasons.

Student Assistance Scheme
Applications for assistance through this fund have closed as we have committed all available funds.

School News Online
We have set up a new online newsletter at weps.wikispaces.com. We will trial this site for the next few weeks and see how it meets our needs. Please inform the office if you use the site and encounter problems. There are ads on the site, but, if we decide to use it, these can be removed for a small annual fee.

After all 2007 payments have been made the canteen balance is $5009.33. This is a great result considering the canteen was in the red due to renovations earlier in 2007 so all the volunteers, especially Maree, Toni and the Canteen Committee members should be commended for all their hard work.
